Imagine What Realism Could Bring Us in a New World

Reality may be an awkward factor, but it pays off big time.

Reality is a hard master, and most people are not fond of it. It prevents a belief in gods. It chucks positive thinking and personal growth out of the window. And it focuses, with clarity, on what is happening around us. After all, it’s not what’s inside us that determines the outcomes of our lives — it’s very much what is outside us.

Let me demonstrate that to you.

You’re standing on a beach in Indonesia. You’ve never bothered to study geology, so you are completely unaware that when the sea recedes, you run for your life — as fast and as high as possible. You’ve spent a lot of time praying to your god, but you never bothered to learn about the real world around you. Subsequently, more than a quarter of a million people die — including you.

That’s reality.

There’s a referendum for Brits to decide whether they want to stay in the European Union or whether they want to depart. They are inundated with a million different view points. Many of them are blown over by the idea that the National Health Service will have a billion or hundreds of millions more. Why? Because they won’t have to pay EU membership fees.

Imagine what would have happened if they had looked at the hard reality. The UK joined the European Union while it was on the last legs of being the British Empire. As such, nobody noticed that it had become a very small island, and that, without the resources of its previous empire, it no longer had the clout that it once had. Imagine how the vote would have gone if they were willing to look at the fact that business was already relocating to the EU. Why didn’t they? Because many still wanted to believe a myth — that of British exceptionalism.

The UK is now in deep shit.

That’s reality.
