When Health Advice Becomes Body Shaming

Personal trainers are not the oracles of health and fitness.

At first, it may seem like, “Yeah she is right though, high body weight can lead to diabetes and high blood pressure”. It is curious how people’s thoughts immediately jump to diabetes when they hear high body weight. From my personal experience, I watched my husband banish his Type 2 Diabetes by dropping almost 30 Kilograms in a year. I am sure that he is not the only one to have achieved better health through weight loss. So why was Twitterverse so angry?

Doctors, personal trainers, fitness coaches are quick to drop advice on weight loss and health. They have the right to do so, they certainly have the qualifications for it.. well, most of them do. They also have the notorious habit of doling out body related advice to people without thinking if the advice is welcome or not. It is time, I believe, that they understand when a health advice actually becomes body shaming.

It is okay to be concerned. It is not okay to drop comments or do any of the above to a person in whose life you have no stake in.
