Rains

Rains in Mumbai are almost a boon and a bane. Former because we need water for all the monstrosities of the concrete jungle to continue and perpetuating daily life and latter because the monstrosities of concrete jungle continue, potholes, transport shutting or slowing down, getting stuck in low lying areas, flooding and those kinds of things.

Rains in Mumbai however bring forth another archetype of personalities of people loving the greys and blacks and purples in the sky. You’ll find a bunch of us such persons looking forlorn at the sky and talking of petrichor and poetry and lightning and what not. You’ll find us making pictures of the rain drops on windows and selfies in the puddles. You’ll see kids having fun in this rain and their mothers chasing them lest they get sick.

Rains in Mumbai will still remain special. Just like the winter in the north. We don’t have much of a winter here but a constant force of nature called humidity. Apparently there seasons but technically it’s just humidity in different percentages all year round.

Rains in Mumbai will make us want to cuddle under our blankets, watch the rain and drink a hot cup of tea with some “bhajjiya” or fritters if you will.

Rains in Mumbai will make us want to share an umbrella which will be thrown by the wind eventually and the couple giggling happily under the first showers.

Rains in Mumbai will make us want to drop everything we are doing and go get drenched the first time it rains and the weather cools down from the atrocious heat parched state.

Rains, make you reminisce, of the long walks and fervent joy of the past.

Rains make you want to recreate that magic, albeit without the trouble.

Rains call out to the diehard romantic in you.
